Project name: Vilakazi Street Precinct Heritage Trail Client: Johannesburg Development Association Nature of project: The Vilakazi Street Heritage Trail is a project of the JDA in collaboration with the City of Jo’burg and the Hector Pieterson Museum. Trace was appointed to write and research the text for the illustrated panels that are placed along the heritage trail. The trail leads visitors through the Vilakazi Street Precinct past the significant sites of the 1976 Soweto Riots, and other landmarks such as Desmond Tutu’s house and the past home of Nelson Mandela. Artworks which were conceptualised for the precinct by Soweto-based artists are located along the trail.
